Stephanie and Jordan: “Critter Companions”

Attention: I really like how colorful and full of life the front cover of your brochure is. I like how you included multiple pictures of pets. My only critique would be to make the left panel three different photos instead of the same one because it gets cut off at the end of the page. It is a cute photo, though. I also like the quote you used, “Put your confidence in our critters.” I would maybe add a statistic about how animals can soothe depression and anxiety. The contact information is very clear.

Interest: the process of obtaining a critter is very straightforward. If I wanted to participate in your service I would know exactly how to do so. My question is, do you offer this service for non-college students or people who do online school or homeschool? If so, they may not have a valid school ID. Maybe you could have another form of ID they could use. I would also include logistics about picking up and dropping off the pet at the end of the day, how to care for the pet (is food and a litter box included in the rental?)

Desire: the pictures you have showing people being affectionate with their animals make me want to have a pet too. I really like the lingo you used, “you will feel the relief as a purring kitten or skittering gerbil activates your endorphins and sends you on a path to an anxiety-free day.” I am a little confused about the bottom picture of the building. Is that where your pets live? I would maybe add something that says how well the animals are taken care of at your facility and if the photos on your brochure are your animals, you could include their names.

Caitlyn and Jack: “I can’t believe it’s not plagiarism”

Attention: I think the white background really works for your brochure because it is academic. The catchphrase, “in need of some extra money?” is sure to lure students in because every college student wants some extra cash and most likely, takes some notes. You could add 11 Hills Beach Rd. if it is at UNE to make the physical location more clear. I think you have a solid mission statement and you used good pictures that apply to a student audience. The framing around your photos looks really good too. I am not really sure if you meant to leave “this” in the quote frame but I would maybe add more wording to that. It is clear what qualifications one should have to participate in this service.

Interest: If I were someone who took extremely detailed, color-coordinated, and beautiful notes I would for sure be interested in the service. My only concern would be is this service approved by the head of academia – and checked for plagiarism? Notes could possibly have something related to previous exams and I would not want to get in trouble for academic integrity. I would maybe use a different font in the star quote, it may just be my eyes but it seems a little blurry.

Desire: the quotes from real students that have used this service are really good. It seems as though you are only targeting people who would sell their notes on this brochure, but you may also add quotes from students who have used this service the alternative way, and explain how the notes have improved their grades and helped them understand the class material better. It is clear for me how to find more information on your product. Just for looks, I would make the website link fit on one line. You could also add the UNE logo to make it look more professional.

Journal #21

Alaina: I have been working on the formatting and content for the brochure. My role is to come up with quotes and descriptions for our product which is a shower shoe that cleans your feet without the person wearing it has to take off the shoe. Before the peer review, we need to complete the details on the brochure and create a digital version of our shoe or cut out pictures of the individual parts of the shoe so we can have them on our brochure. We also need a company mission statement and details for the back page. It should be ready for the trade show on March 25th. Working remotely is different because you have to rely on yourself to do the work and manage your time. It is harder to do group projects this way because in-person you can talk and bounce ideas off of each other. It shouldn’t be too difficult to complete this project as we already started it in class, but I think future group projects where we have no in-person meetings and rely on emails will be harder. You really need to be able to rely on your partner in this type of situation. Being able to successfully complete a class online will be helpful for my future because I will be doing my master’s degree online.

Destiny: I have been working on product design. I had come up with the prototype designs for both the towel design and the cleaning design. My role is thinking about product logistics in a way that would work if we were to actually make and produce the product. For the peer review, we need to get pictures of the product onto the brochure itself so that it is clear what the product looks like, which can aid in the attention-grabbing part of the brochure. In addition, we need a written, solid mission statement. I expect the mission statement to be something like “Foot For Thought works to provide a safer and cleaner way of living for all freshmen across the nation. College freshmen have it rough, having to share showers with 10 plus people and having to wear shower shoes which are not only uncomfortable but also make it bothersome to clean your feet. We put the fresh in freshman!” or something along those lines. Working remotely can be challenging as you are not able to communicate as clearly what you mean. Communication can be difficult and it can get lost in translation. It will be difficult but once we have adjusted, it will only get easier and easier.

Author’s Note

This process of moving from in-person classes to remote learning has been unexpected and at times, challenging. I was really not anticipating doing the rest of this class online, but so far it is going okay. There are some good things about working remotely. I have a little more free time, I can eat meals with my family, and I save money in rent. I am keeping up with things by having a routine for my days. Most of my classes are still meeting at the same time of day if they are on Zoom, so it is easy to keep that schedule. For my classes with remote lectures or projects, I am trying to stay on top of them as I would do if I weren’t home. For this class, I really miss the in-person meetings because I thrive in small classes and get a lot out of them. I am glad we are still able to have a personal touch by using Zoom, and I think we are extremely lucky to live in a time where we have the technology to do this. I am not worried about finishing the semester successfully, we just all have to adapt. I am glad we were able to build connections in person before everything happened.
